Kyrie Irving may have been punished for promoting a film with anti-Semitic elements, but there is still a huge platform that is not only carrying the film but also profiting from it.
“Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America!” is available for rent on Amazon for $10.99 or purchase for $48.99. We contacted Amazon to see if there were any intentions to limit access or remove the film entirely, but have received no answer.
.
While the condemnation Kyrie has received for promoting, and initially refusing to disavow, the film’s antisemitism is deserved… there has been little to no public clamor for Amazon to pull the film.
In fact, Amazon’s listing for the film contains a “Watch and speak with others” feature, which it does make available for other TV/movies, but it merely adds to the dislike.
Furthermore, both the Brooklyn Nets and the Anti-Defamation League petitioned Jeff Bezos and Amazon’s executives to remove the film on Friday.
As previously reported, Kyrie is currently serving at least a five-game suspension, as announced by the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday: “We were disappointed today when, during a media session, Kyrie refused to state unequivocally that he has no antisemitic beliefs or acknowledge specific hateful material in the film. It wasn’t the first time he’d had the chance – but failed – to clarify.”
Just a few hours after the Nets announcement, Kyrie attempted another apology, saying, “To all Jewish families and communities that are hurt and affected by my post … I am deeply sorry to have caused you pain, and I apologize.”
The apology has received mixed reviews, with many feeling it wasn’t sincere with a “sorry if I hurt your feelings” vibe.
