Liz Truss was elected British Prime Minister and Conservative Party leader on Monday, defeating her competitor Rishi Sunak by over 20,000 votes. Liz Truss has become the third woman elected United Kingdom prime minister.

Truss was initially against the issue of leaving the European Union. However, she later came out in support of Boris Johnson, who emerged as the hero of Brexit. Mary Elizabeth Truss is Liz Truss’ full name. She was born on July 26, 1975, in Oxford, England, to parents John Kenneth Truss and Priscilla Marie Truss. Her father was a professor of mathematics at the University of Leeds, and her mother was a nurse. Truss’ family relocated to Scotland when she was four years old. She completed her preliminary studies here. She moved to Canada after a few years.

 

While attending Merton College, Truss campaigned for the Liberal Democrats party. She has also been the chair of the Oxford University Liberal Democrats. She was also a member of the National Executive of Liberal Democrats Youth and Students. As a student leader, Truss also campaigned extensively for the Labor Party.
