Kelly Clarkson says her divorce inspired her new album: ‘There were a lot of feelings.’
Kelly Clarkson is resuming her singing career.
In a new interview with Variety, Clarkson, 40, stated that she has finished recording her new album and wants to release it in 2023. Clarkson felt ready to release new music for her fans after taking some time off this summer in Montana.
“Finally, I had some free time. I hadn’t had a summer off since I was about 16, and I thought, ‘I need it off.’ “She stated. “That, I believe, opened the room for me to consider, ‘What am I comfortable with?’ ‘What do I want to say?’ So this week I’m working on my record. It will be released next year.”
“I recorded the record quite some time ago,” she added.
Clarkson remarked that this is a “important record” for her. When she and her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, divorced in June 2020, she began working on it. “There were a lot of feelings.” “It was difficult,” she said. “Last night, my producer and I were giggling because I was like, ‘Remember that time we wrote like, 25 songs in a week?'” A lot of those are included on the album. “I literally wrote the most of these over two years ago.” “Then I told my label, ‘I can’t talk about this until I’ve gone through it,’ and it’s just taken some time,” Clarkson added. “That’s one of the reasons we’ve done so much Christmas things the last two years — because I was like happy, ‘Well, that’s one of the reasons.'”
In general, I enjoy being busy. But, especially when all the emotions are flying around, I’m thinking, ‘Oh, let’s be as busy as we can be so I don’t have to experience this for a minute!’ Clarkson continued. “That is something I do that is unhealthy. ‘I just need to keep swimming like Dory, and eventually I’ll get there,’ I thought.”
“That’s why this summer was so essential to me, even though many people were disappointed since I was scheduled to do a few things. I stepped down from ‘The Voice’ this season because I simply needed the time away “She stated.
