He did try.
He lost.
And because of that, he may have to spend the rest of his life in prison.
On August 1, a federal grand jury that was looking into the riot at the Capitol on January 6, 2021, and other attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election, charged Donald Trump with four crimes.

In the legal papers, there were also names of six other people who were involved in the plot. Four of them were lawyers who worked for the former President around this time.
The indictment says that Trump “was determined to stay in power” after losing the election to Joe Biden.
The indictment also says that these co-conspirators “helped carry out a plan” to “obstruct the certification” of votes by submitting fake lists of presidential electors.

Reads a part of the accusation:
“So, for more than two months after the November 3, 2020 election, the Defendant told lies that the election had been rigged and that he had actually won.”
The person in charge of the investigation, Special Counsel Jack Smith, held a short press conference soon after the indictment was made public and said:
“The attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, was the first time that the seat of American democracy had ever been attacked. As the indictment says, lies were used to make it happen. “The defendant’s lies.”

The problem is that he knew it was a lie.
This is the THIRD time the twice-impeached former Commander-in-Chief has been indicted in 2023, which is both funny and sad:
Once for supposed payments to women to keep them quiet around the 2016 election.
And then again on federal charges about how he handled secret papers after he left the White House.

“I’ve heard that Deranged Jack Smith will release another fake indictment of your favorite president, me, at 5:00 p.m. to mess up the Presidential Elections of 2024.
“Why haven’t they done this in the last 2.5 years? What took them so long?
“Because they wanted to put it in the middle of my campaign. Misconduct by the Prosecutor!”

In a statement that showed a little bit of backbone, the candidate for president in 2024 said:
“Today’s indictment is a good reminder that no one should ever be President of the United States if they put themselves above the Constitution.”
We’ll find out soon if the American people who vote agree.
