Flavor Flav is reflecting on his turbulent drug-bingeing past, which he claims nearly cost him his life and cost him nearly $1 million per year – and he’s convinced God allowed him to survive to tell his story.
On DJ Akademiks’ ‘Off The Record’ Spotify podcast, the Public Enemy hype man came clean… He admits that getting off drugs was the most difficult challenge he’s ever faced.
Flav claims he spent $2400 per day on crack and kept it hidden from those closest to him, including Chuck D and the other members of his PE band.
The Long Island-born rap legend first revealed his crack addiction in his 2011 book, “Flavor Flav: The Icon The Memoir.” He tells Ak that because he had a lot of money during his heyday, he was his own biggest and best customer.

Flav was also critical of today’s hip hop landscape… Noting how rappers are filling their lyrics with drug references, he is not optimistic about the future.
He believes crack will be around for as long as humans exist, which Boosie Badazz would undoubtedly agree with.
The rapper complained that today’s drugs are too potent. He’d been reacting to Gangsta Boo’s death, which some believe was the result of a fatal overdose, when he gave some wildly irresponsible advice on getting high.
In recent years, prominent rappers such as Juice Wrld, Lil Peep, and Gucci Mane artist, Big Scarr, have all died from ODs… As a result, Flav’s findings are, sadly, a grim reality.
