Blue Bloods’s thirteenth season finale is quickly approaching, and fans unquestionably have numerous concerns. Danny Reagan and Maria Baez have one of the highest likelihoods of being in a relationship. However, amid these rumors, it has been reported that a significant character that fans have likely missed will return to the series. Jennifer Esposito, who portrayed Detective Jackie Curatola in the first three seasons of the police procedural, will reprise her role and reconcile with her former co-star!

Danny and Jackie, who is now Chief of Police, will be brought back together by a case, according to TVLine. The two and Baez will team up to track down a murderer, whose work is similar to that of serial killer Dr. Leonard Walker. This is a big surprise, as Jennifer Esposito exited the series in 2012, meaning it’s been over a decade since she last portrayed Jackie. Nothing else has been revealed about the actress’ return, though CBS did share a sweet behind-the-scenes photo that shows Esposito on the set with Donnie Wahlberg and Marisa Ramirez.

Given how long it’s been since her last appearance, I’m extremely eager to see Jackie Curatola again. Much has changed since she departed, but based on her new position, I assume the same will be true for her. This position may result in a shift in the professional relationship between Jackie and Danny. Though I’m still hopeful that the episode will have a similar tone to the earlier episodes of the series.

Jennifer Esposito has remained active since departing the cast of Blue Bloods, even appearing in Season 14 of another CBS series, NCIS, as Alex Quinn. She has also appeared in She’s Hilarious That Way, The Affair, Blindspot, Law & Order: SVU, Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens, and Somewhere in Queens. Even though she’s done so much since her time on the police procedural ended, I’m sure it wasn’t difficult for the talented actress to return to her role as Curatola after so many years.

Fans should only anticipate her return in the Season 13 finale at this time. However, it would be very thrilling if this somehow paved the way for her to return in the newly-ordered fourteenth season. Existing supporters would certainly be on board with that. Obviously, we shouldn’t get too far ahead of ourselves here, but at the very least, it’s an entertaining idea to fantasize about.

With only a handful of episodes remaining, it is evident that Blue Bloods Season 13 is still pulling off some delightfully unexpected reunions. One can only expect that the most recent season of the show ends on a high note. With Jennifer Esposito rejoining the cast for the finale, I would say that things are shaping up beautifully.

As part of the 2023 television schedule, new episodes of Blue Bloods will broadcast on CBS every Friday at 10 p.m. ET.
