Matthew Macfadyen is in talks to join Ryan Reynolds in the third Deadpool movie. In Succession, he played a member of a crazy family.
Reynolds plays Deadpool in the movie, and Hugh Jackman plays Wolverine. The Crown’s Emma Corrin plays a bad guy in the movie. Macfadyen’s role is unknown, but the feature looked for a character who was described as Deadpool and Wolverine’s “third wheel.”
Succession’s fourth and last season started on Sunday. Macfadyen has been praised for his role as the sneaky and obedient Tom. Last year, he won an Emmy for best supporting actor, and in 2020, he was nominated for an Emmy. Deadline was the first to report that he had been cast.
Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin of Bobs Burgers wrote an early draft of the script. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who wrote Deadpool and Deadpool 2, joined the project later.
Reynolds has been trying to get Jackman to bring Wolverine out of retirement for a Deadpool movie for years. Last year, Jackman finally agreed, and the two of them told everyone in September. Jackman said that the 2017 movie Logan would be the last time he played Logan. He first played the character in the 2000 movie X-Men, which made him a star.
Reynolds’s career changed when 20th Century Fox released the first Deadpool in 2016. At the time, it was the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever. Since Disney bought Fox, the franchise is now part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It will be the first R-rated movie in the MCU and the first movie made by Kevin Feige, who runs Marvel Studios.
The movie is being made by Shawn Levy, who has worked with Reynolds and Jackman on movies like The Adam Project, Free Guy, and Real Steel. Before the Deadpool news came out last year, Levy told The Hollywood Reporter that he wanted to put the two actors in the same movie: “What we want to do is fold it all together and make a big, fat bromance sandwich of a movie, because the world wants the Hugh Jackman-Ryan Reynolds movie.”
Disney plans to release the movie on November 8, 2024.
As the last episodes of Succession air, Macfadyen is working on Holland, Michigan, a movie for Amazon that stars Nicole Kidman and Gael Garca Bernal. His agents are UTA and Hamilton Hodell.
