The much-anticipated Netflix docuseries about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry came out in December of last year to a lot of fanfare and mostly positive reviews.
It was the kind of high-profile prestige programming that usually does well during awards season, so many people in the industry were surprised when Harry & Meghan didn’t get nominated for a single Emmy.
If the couple’s careers were going well overall, they might just move on from such a small setback.
But the news of the rejection came during Harry and Meghan’s worst run of bad press since they stopped working as royals.
Now, it looks like the Sussexes want to know why they were left out.
A new report from Heat magazine says that Harry and Meghan were very angry about the news, and they think that one of their enemies is to blame for this latest embarrassment.
“It’s a huge kick in the teeth that they didn’t get an Emmy nomination,” a source tells the outlet.
“They’re sure that there’s been a planned campaign of hate against them on both sides of the Atlantic, and that some people are trying to join in,” says a person with knowledge of the situation.
Now, the source says, the Sussexes are looking into the situation to find out who “put the boot in” and what in the world they have to do to get a break.
They must have hired a private eye from the 1940s because who else talks like that?
It’s important to note that not every award-giving group passed over Harry and Meghan’s series.
The documentary is up for a Hollywood Critics Award in the category of “Best Streaming Nonfiction.”
But the Hollywood Critics Awards are not the Emmys, and Harry and Meghan won’t be able to show how successful they are by walking the red carpet with other A-list stars.
The Sussexes probably thought that getting nominated for an Emmy was a given, and the fact that they weren’t could be a sign that Hollywood doesn’t like them as much as they thought.
And the dislike (or indifference) toward the couple might go beyond the movie business.
Insiders say that Harry and Meghan plan to move from Montecito to Hope Ranch, which is an even nicer town in Southern California.
But the people who live there now are said to be unhappy with the idea that paparazzi and tourists will flock to their nice seaside town.
Even though people are against them moving, Harry and Meghan are probably still going to do it. However, their new neighbors may not be too happy about it.
