If any MMA fans thought they had seen it all, Derrick Lewis going Jorge Masvidal-style airborne for a flying-knee TKO and then taking his pants off for a Degeneration X-style crotch chop might make them think again.
On the main card of UFC 291, Lewis (27-11 MMA, 18-9 UFC) ran across the cage for a flying knee on the opening bell and finished Marcos Rogerio de Lima (21-9-1 MMA, 10-7 UFC) with follow-up punches 33 seconds into Round 1. The event took place at Salt Lake City’s Delta Center.
When “The Black Beast” landed the knee, he did something that Lewis said he didn’t expect until it happened. This was an unusual way for him to show off his athleticism. For the next 30 seconds, Lewis hit de Lima hard, and she tried to hide.
When referee Dan Miragliotta stopped the fight, Lewis removed his Venum fight trunks and danced in his gray compression shorts. He chopped his crotch as a tribute to the famous WWE group DX.
Lewis told commentator Joe Rogan after the fight that it was the last fight on his UFC contract.
Lewis, who is 38, ended a losing streak of three fights, while de Lima, also 38, saw her two-fight winning streak end.
